Frequently Asked Questions 1. Do I need a university degree to be eligible for the CMA program? Yes. The normal minimum requirements for the CMA program include a completed university degree and at least the following four prerequisites: • Introductory Financial Accounting The degree can be in any area (e.g. economics, history, etc…), so long as it is from a recognized university. If your transcript is from a university outside of Canada or Bermuda College (in Bermuda), see specific FAQ below. 2. How much does the CMA program cost? The CMA program can vary according to the background of the applicant (e.g. accounting graduate vs. history graduate). How do I know if I am qualified for the CMA program? The easiest way to confirm your placement within the CMA process is to have your transcript evaluated by our program administrators. Official transcripts are required. Official transcripts to be evaluated can be sent directly to Sherry Dunn, CMA Program Consultant for Nova Scotia, PEI, Bermuda and the Caribbean. 4. What if I only have 12 of the 16 prerequisites, but still have all the accounting and finance ones? There are six “management” topics that are of a lesser necessity than the other topics for the purposes of challenging the CMA Entrance Exam. As such, CMA Nova Scotia, Bermuda, and Prince Edward Island is prepared to offer preparatory materials to applicants who may be missing one or more of these topics – thus giving them the opportunity to gain this topic coverage on their own and also allowing them to directly challenging the CMA Entrance Exam. The six management topics include; Internal Control, Strategic Management, Operations Management, Organizational Behaviour/Human Resources, Marketing and Information Technology. For more detail about this exception, please contact us. 5. My academic transcripts are not from Bermuda College (and nor from a Canadian university). What should I do? To determine your eligibility for the CMA Entrance Exam, we encourage you to mail an official copy of your university transcripts to CMA for a free official evaluation. Please note official transcripts are required. If your university education is from an institution other than Bermuda College (and not a Canadian university), we will require that you provide the university course descriptions for those that pertain to the CMA prerequisite courses. If the language of study and/or transcript is in a language other than English or French, please forward an official or notarized translation of your transcript. 6. How do I register for the CMA Accelerated Program? The normal way to register for the CMA Accelerated Program is as follows: 1. Download the application form found on the CMA website from [here] Within two weeks, CMA will let you know the status of your application. 7. Do you have to pass the CMA Entrance Exam before you can enrol in the MBA-CMA program? Yes, under normal circumstances all applicants to the MBA-CMA Program must first successfully pass the CMA Entrance Exam. 8. I am already a fully qualified accountant as a CMA (UK) or CPA (Australia)? Am I eligible for any advanced standing in pursuing my CMA designation? CMA (Canada) and these respective organizations have entered into a mutual recognition agreement whereby qualified CMA Canada members in good standing can be recognized as members of CIMA (UK) and CPA (Australia) and qualified members in good standing of these two organizations can be recognized as members of CMA Canada. Each applicant’s submission needs to be reviewed by the recipient body. Applicants are required to make their application to the CMA administrative office in the region in which they are living and working and must satisfy any unique admission requirements beyond those approved by CMA (Canada). For more information or details, please contact us. 9. I am already a fully qualified accountant as a ACCA (UK), CA (Canada), CGA (Canada), CPA (US), or CMA (Pakistan). Am I eligible for any advanced standing in pursuing my CMA designation? Fully qualified members of these respective organizations are eligible for a waiver with respect to the CMA Entrance Exam and may proceed directly to either the CMA Strategic Leadership Program or the MBA-CMA Program so long as they are a member in good standing of their organization and also have a completed university degree.
